About the Photographer

Philip Sokolowski is the photographer and creative mind behind 8A Photography. Philip's exposure to art at an early age sparked an interest in viewing the world through an artists eye. As a teenager , Philip purchased his first camera, discovered a love for photography, and ignited a passion. During his college years, Philip studied under renowned photographer, Susan Kravitz, where he not only learned the technical aspects of photography, he developed his unique style. A freelance career soon followed, and the good fortune of having a home base in New York City provided opportunities unlike any other. Philip worked his way up the ranks from photo assistant to lead photographer on many photo shoots. Throughout this experience, Philip's ultimate goal was to always develop his talent for fine art photography.

Although the life of a New York City photographer provided challenges and interesting possibilities, Philip's love for the game of golf called to him to make a career change. As a matter of fact many of Philip's closest friends only know him as a golfer and are pleasantly surprised to see that this extraordinary talent exists. This is an important aspect of Philip's life for a few reasons. It was not for a long time away from photography that Philip realized how much he really loved taking pictures. It has given him the opportunity to combine his two passions and if you have taken a look at his fine art golf prints you can see an attention for detail in even the most simple of images such as a rake in a bunker. And had it not been for golf he would never had met his wife.

While Philip has a love for developing his fine art photographs he also enjoys other avenues of photography and has built a career out of utilizing his talents for portrait photography, children's photography and headshots. His knowledge of lighting techniques, subject placement and spacial relation captures the essence of the subject's personality and inner-self. He sometimes uses natural backdrops to set the tone for the perfect balance of subject and setting.

One glance at Philip's galleries and you will discover why his work has been called "stunning" and "captivating." It is Philip's hope that you will enjoy the images as much as he has creating them.

Photographic Quality

Philip shoots with both digital and film cameras and it is not uncommon that he will shoot the same subject with everything from 100 to 3200 speed film, normal ectachrome to infrared. All of Philip's negatives and chromes are scanned on a Epson Perfection 2450 Photo scanner and printed with an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Printer. Philip uses the Piezography Neutral K7 inks with either MOAB Entrada Bright White paper or Hahnemuhle Fine Art Photo Rag paper. Both papers enhance the overall quality of the printed image. If you are a photographer yourself he highly recommends looking into the Piezography inks and the different papers available on the market today. Philip's color printing is done with a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 on Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl Paper All prints are matted on bright-white, acid-free board, and include a 4-ply bevel-cut overmat. Each print and overmat is signed.
